Windows 11 Home: for a personal computer
Choose Windows 11 Home when you need the Home edition for a compatible personal PC or laptop. It is the direct choice for a home installation that does not require a Pro or Enterprise edition. Check the edition name in your order carefully, because a key must correspond to the Windows edition being activated.
Windows 11 Pro: for professional use
Microsoft Windows 11 Pro is aimed at professionals and business computers that need the Pro edition rather than Home. It is also the sensible starting point when an organisation specifies Windows 11 Pro for its workstations. Windows Enterprise, LTSC and IoT: choose the exact edition
Enterprise, Enterprise LTSC and IoT Enterprise LTSC are distinct products. LTSC identifies a long-term servicing release, while an IoT product is intended for a dedicated IoT installation. Do not choose one merely because its name sounds more comprehensive. Confirm the required channel, release and device purpose with the person responsible for the system.
Windows 10 and earlier versions: for an existing requirement
A Windows 10 licence can still meet a defined compatibility requirement. For a new everyday computer, first check whether it supports Windows 11.

Is it legal to buy a resold Windows licence?
Legal basis
Yes, provided the conditions apply. In UsedSoft v Oracle, Court of Justice of the European Union case C-128/11, 3 July 2012, the Court established that permanent software licences may be resold in the EU under conditions:
- The first sale in the EU must have been made by the rightholder or with the rightholder's consent.
- The right of use must be granted for an indefinite period in return for a price intended to reflect the economic value of the copy.
- The seller must make its own copy unusable when the licence is resold.
- A multi-user licence must be resold as a whole and must not be split.

Windows requirements: what to check before buying
- The processor, memory, free storage and display must meet the requirements of the selected Windows version.
- The computer must support the firmware and security requirements of that version.

Windows 10 support and upgrading to Windows 11
Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025. The operating system may continue to run, but the end of ordinary support matters for security and planning. If your computer supports Windows 11 and your applications and hardware are compatible, choose the Windows 11 edition that matches your needs.
