Microsoft extended support for Project 2016 ended on 14 October 2025. Your perpetual licence continues to work indefinitely — the software does not stop functioning. What changes is that Microsoft has stopped issuing security and feature updates for Project 2016.
For most individual users and small teams, this is acceptable. For organisations subject to compliance frameworks requiring supported software (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001), Microsoft recommends Project 2019 (perpetual, also past extended support as of 2025-10-14), Project Professional 2021 (perpetual, supported through 2026-10-14), or Project Plan 3/5 (subscription, continuously updated).

Does Project 2016 work on Mac?
No. Microsoft Project has never been released for macOS. For Mac-based project management, consider Microsoft 365 web apps with Planner, or third-party tools like OmniPlan or Merlin Project.
Will my licence stop working after 14 October 2025?
No. Perpetual licences never expire. Microsoft has stopped issuing updates, but the installed software continues to run on supported Windows versions.
What's the difference between OEM and Retail?
