New Microsoft Office Update: Text to Speech

Nueva actualización de Microsoft Office: Texto a voz

Microsoft 365 has announced that there will soon be a read aloud feature that will allow Android users to listen to their documents while their device screen is locked.
The update is still in development, but should be available to all Android users by the end of April.

Microsoft Office Accessibility

The read aloud service for Microsoft Office is useful in several ways. Most importantly, it serves as an accessibility feature for people with vision problems or conditions such as dyslexia.

But it can also be used well in multitasking situations, when someone is on the move or busy.

The unavailability of the read aloud function when the screen of the device is locked is an unnecessary problem that Microsoft wants to fix with the new update.
Users can carry their device in their pocket without worrying about accidentally touching the screen.

The text-to-speech option is the latest in a series of targeted updates to the Microsoft Office suite with one common goal: to level the playing field for all users.
Last week, Microsoft released a separate roadmap introducing an update to Outlook that will allow users to ensure their emails meet accessibility standards.

"We are extending the functionality to automatically alert you if an accessibility violation is detected when composing an email to external users and help you fix the problem," the company said.

Microsoft announced a new add-on for Word, Excel and PowerPoint that allows some users to inform their colleagues of additional needs.

The idea was to create a non-confrontational way to remind staff of their accessibility needs without having to send an email or instant message.
