What is Microsoft Publisher, and what is it for?
Microsoft Publisher is one of the applications included in most Microsoft 365 subscription packages. With this tool you will be able to easily and efficiently design all kinds of works, such as images, calendars, borders, etc…
One of the great advantages of this design software is the large number of pre-designed templates that you will have access to. With Publisher you will be able to create all kinds of different formats, such as simple labels, postcards or even digital marketing material, such as posters or posts for Instagram.
Tips for creating in Microsoft Publisher
Using the templates
As we have already mentioned, templates are going to be one of your greatest allies when it comes to creating the content you want. The only thing you will have to do is to choose the right template for your needs.
In Publisher you have many different types of templates available, from greeting cards to templates for large formats. However, you can also have the option of creating your own templates from scratch.
Create shapes and layouts on Microsoft Publisher
One of the advantages of this software is that it includes several graphic shapes with which you can create different compositions, use them to give your imagination freedom and create all kinds of inspiring designs.
From simple shapes such as squares, to some more elaborate ones with which you can play without any complications.
To make use of them, you simply have to look for the "insert" tab and select the "shapes" option. Once placed in the box, you can make different changes to the shapes themselves, such as size, colour changes, thickness changes, and you can even use them as text squares.
Make use of rulers and guides
One of the tools you will need the most in Publisher if you want to create geometric or centred compositions are the guides. These tools can be used to frame all the elements you want to add to your compositions.
On the other hand, the use of the rulers will allow us to easily measure all the elements of our designs. Thus creating much more symmetrical and professional compositions.
In order to create these rules and guides we simply have to follow the following route: "Page layout" - "design guides". One of the most positive parts of these guides is that we can modify them without any problem by clicking on the rules that we have created and dragging the cursor to where we want to leave them.
Essential formats
The formats in which we export our creations will be our greatest allies and the final finish of our creations will depend on them. To be able to export them, we need to know that Publisher will allow us to save the same file in pdf, xps, as a jpg "image" or even as an HTML file.
The route to follow to export the files is as follows: "File" - "Export" - "Create PDF/XPS document".
Adding files to created Microsoft Publisher documents
One of the great advantages we have in our Publisher is the possibility of importing the files we need in a very simple way. We would simply have to drag the files we want to import into the same programme in which we are working.
