What version is my Windows, 32-bit or 64-bit?
If we have doubts about which version our Windows is, this is normal. This is very important when choosing which software to install, because it is not the same to install a programme for Windows 32-bit or 64-bit. In this post you will find our guide to know in the different Windows (8.1 | 10 | 11) which version you have on our computer.
For Windows 7 or Windows Vista
If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, there are two ways to determine whether you are working with a 32-bit or 64-bit version. If one of these methods does not work, try the other.
Method 1: Displaying the system window in the control panel
1. Click Start, type System in the search box, and then click System in the Control Panel list.
2. The operating system is displayed as follows:
3. For a 64-bit version of the respective operating system: The 64-bit operating system is displayed under System for the system type.
4. For a 32-bit version of the respective operating system: The 32-bit operating system is displayed under System for the system type.
Method 2: Displaying the system information window
1. Click Start, type system in the search box, and then click System Information in the Programmes list.
2. When the System Overview option is selected in the navigation bar, the operating system is displayed as follows:
3. For a 64-bit version of the operating system: X64-based PC is displayed as an item under the System Type item.
4. For a 32-bit version of the operating system: X86-based PC is displayed as an item under the System Type item.
What version is my Windows XP Professional?
If you have Windows XP, there are two ways to determine whether you are working with a 32-bit or 64-bit version. If one of these methods does not work, try the other.
Method 1: Display "System Properties" in the Control Panel
1. Click on Start and then on Run.
2. Enter sysdm.cpl and then click OK.
3. Click on the General tab. The operating system is displayed as follows:
4. For a 64-bit version of the respective operating system: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, the system is listed under System.
5. For a 32-bit version of the respective operating system: The version of Windows XP Professional is listed under System.
Method 2: Displaying the system information window
1. Click on Start and then on Run.
2. Enter winmsd.exe and then click OK.
3. If the System Overview option is selected in the navigation area, look for the processor in the details area under Element. Make a note of the value.
4. If the value corresponding to the processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows.
5. If the value for the processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows.
