Use Office for free: 6 possible ways
The free Office licence is hard to get. In this article we explain how you can use Microsoft Office for free.
Microsoft Office is still the gold standard for office applications, but Microsoft Office licences can be expensive. Two years after its release, Microsoft Office 2019 Home & Business still sells for more than €200 as a single PC licence.

1. Use Microsoft Office Online for free
Microsoft itself offers an extensive collection of free Microsoft Office services. Office on the Web (that's the official name, but it's still called Office Online) is basically a browser-based version of the latest Microsoft Office suite.

But there are a few pitfalls. Online versions of Microsoft Office applications offer only a limited experience with Microsoft Office.
For example, Word Online does not contain text fields, WordArt, equations, graphical tables, etc. You can write a statement but not a business report. You can also open and view Excel spreadsheets, but your custom macros will not load.
This is a free and versatile alternative to a paid Microsoft Office licence, although Office Online does not offer some features. With the free version of Office, you can open, edit and, most importantly, save your file in a normal format.

2. Use mobile Microsoft Office applications for free
The free Microsoft Office is available for Android and iOS. Mobile Office apps include smaller but more functional versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The functionality of the mobile Office apps depends on the screen size used.
For example, editing a Word document on my Samsung Galaxy S8 makes sense, but trying to navigate Excel spreadsheets is confusing and frustrating. In contrast, editing a Word or Excel document on a large tablet screen is really fun.
There are other ways to use Microsoft Office for free. At least part of Microsoft Office. Microsoft has changed its strategy several times, from standard, unified Office applications to mobile Office applications.
Android and iOS users can now use the integrated Office app with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Office Lens (PDF conversion tool) enables instant file sharing between nearby devices, including images and data capture from spreadsheet files.

Office 2019 has made a number of changes. If you have not yet signed up for Office 2019, you can try it out before you empty your pocket. For this purpose, you can get a free monthly trial of Microsoft 365.
