The Witcher 3 update for next-gen could include popular mods
Halk Hogan, the modder behind The Witcher 3 HD Reworked project, posted a comment under one of his recent videos saying that CDPR had contacted him. "I know I announced a new HDRP preview in early March, but I've been quiet all this time. I'm sorry about that," he writes. "In return, I have some good news and the reasons why I have been silent and why I don't have much to show. I think the most important news is that I have received official word from CDPR about the collaboration. Although it's not certain yet, it's very likely that HDRP will be included in the official update of the next generation."
The HD Reworked Project has been running since 2015 and so far The Witcher 3 Mod is the most popular on Nexus Mods. Currently, Halk is working on another version that will update the open-world game once again. In a comment to Kotaku, CDPR confirmed that in addition to working on the update for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, they are "in talks with developers of various mods for the 2015 version of the game".
CDPR announced the next-gen update last year, and anyone who already owns the fantasy game will get it for free.
Here is the latest Hogan preview:
Given the kind of experimentation, improvement and general creativity that has come out of The Witcher 3 modding scene, this possible collaboration is not surprising. It renders the starting area in 4K, records all dialogue, turns Geralt into a snowboarder and ties Blood and Wine to a new quest. We don't have a time frame for the release of the official update yet, but in the meantime there's plenty to keep everyone entertained.
